Alex “Country” Stephens, 41, passed away suddening from a massive heart attack, Saturday, March 6, 2010. Alex is survived by his parents, Robert Earl & Harriette McLester Stephens and his fiance’, Sherry McLamb.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 - 9 PM at Wiliiford Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be Wednesday at Chalybeate Springs Baptist Church at 11 AM. Rev. Joe Greene and Rev. C. Charles Walter Bush, 83, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening.

He was born in Winchester, VA and spent most of his life there until 2005 when he and his wife moved to North Carolina to be close to their children and grandchildren.

He proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII and was a dedicated employee of the US Postal Service for 35 years. Charles also provided bookkeeping and income tax services in Winchester for friends and clients for 40 years.

Charles is survived by: Jean Fahrney Bush, his wife of 62 years; his two daughters, Nina Bush Lepore and Diane Bush Mason and her husband, Charles Mason; his three grandchildren, Robert Lusk, Larry Lepore and Rebecca Lepore, all of Fuquay-Varina.

Charles is preceded in death by his son, Dennis Wayne Bush, who passed away in August, 2008.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 7th from 2:00 - 3:00 at Wake Chapel Memorial Gardens prior to the graveside service beginning at 3:00.

On the First Day of March, Cicero Farrar Talley, Jr.

entered Eternity from HIS OWN HOME. His wishes were granted, to step from his Earthly Hearth into the Kingdom of God and that special prepared place - one of the many mansions in the Fathers House. We picture him drinking deeply from the River of the Water of Life and restfully strolling through the orchards of the Trees of Life finally able to partake of the fruit.

He was a child of the Great Depression and always felt that the Wolf was never far from the door. As a result, he overcompensated by working so hard all his life from age 17 after graduating High School

until 74 years old. If anyone deserved a rest from their labors, it was our Daddy. We believe he has entered Eternal Rest and is finally fully enjoying The Real Life. The name his family and friends called him was “Buddy”

and in harmony with that name he was very gregarious

and an extrovert to the hilt.

He, like his father Cicero was the stereotypical Southern Card. He did have a serious side when he needed it. His business demanded a dynamic personality and he was. He worked as a tobacconist, starting as a Speculator and then as a Buyer for The A.C. Monk Tobacco Co. His father, an Auctioneer, taught him the ropes with help from his uncles.

He was a Veteran of WWII and served in the Army

based at Camp Stewart, Georgia in Anti-Aircraft/Artillery-Searchlights. He wouldnt have traded service to his country for anything.

Buddy is preceded in death by his wife Kathryn, son, Matthew and grandson, Garratt Mann. His parents Cicero and Inez Talley.

Mr. Talley is survived by his son, Tom; daughters, Karen Stark of Raleigh, and Nancy Mann of Florida; grandsons, Chipper and Parker Stark, both of Raleigh, Lance Mann of Florida; sister, Estelle Pearce of Youngsville.

Hospice of Wake County helped make his transition as smooth and peaceful as if a ship sailing away on still waters. Anyone with extra resources to donate to a worthy cause should put Hospice at the top of their list.

A memorial service is to be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 7th at Fuquay-Varina Baptist Church on Woodrow St.

Sara Wilson Chandler, 98, passed away March 4, 2010 at Spring Arbor, Apex.

She was born in Smithgrove, KY to the late Clarence Wilson and Myrtle Skaggs.

Mrs. Chandler was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Chandler and daughter, Ann Chandler Mackay.

Mrs. Chandler is survived by her son, Bob Chandler and wife, Susan; grandchildren, Kathie Malia (John), Elizabeth Mackay (Mark) and Jolara Mackay; great-grandchildren, Johnathon and Jacob Malia; son-in-Law, Jenks Mackay.

There will be a graveside service on Tuesday, March 9th at 11:30 a.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville. Also, there will be a memorial service on Sunday, March 14th at 12:15 p.m. at Fuquay-Varina Presbyterian Church. The family would like to extended their thanks to Spring Arbor and Amedisys Hospice Services for all the love and care they gave to Mrs. Chandler.

Larry Gale Brasier, US Army Ret., 65, was called to be with his Lord on Sunday, Feb. 28th.

He was born in Baxter Springs, KS on Dec. 18, 1944 to Gale Alvin and Ernestine Brasier. He was the oldest of

four children.

Larry is survived by his wife, Nancy (Carlene); his daughter, Nancy (and Kyle) vonBucholz of Lorton, VA; his sons, Chris (and Jane) of Durham and Terry (and Wendy) of Belmont; his mother, Ernestine of Miami, OK; his sisters: Jeannie Byko of Oklahoma City, OK, and Lori Grossman of Miami, OK; and seven beautiful grandchildren: Ashley, Chris Jr., Jacob, Carleigh, Zack, Will, and Kate.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Brasier and his dad, Gale Alvin Brasier.

Mr. Brasier’s distinguished military career carried him all over the world throughout his 20-plus years of service to his country.Upon his retirement, Larry persued many passions; including farming, horticulture, fixing up seemingly irrepairable old trucks, and selling fruits

and vegetables at various locations throughout NC. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his belovedgrandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 4 at 2:00 PM at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetary, 400 Murchison Rd. Spring Lake, North Carolina 28390.

Lois Jean Spence Wood, 74, passed away at Rex Hospital on Monday, March 1, 2010. Mrs. Wood was born in Wake County to the late Walter Avery Spence and Bessie Smith Spence. She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Wood, brother Allen Spence and Great Grandson, James Fowler IV.

Mrs. Wood is survived by her sons, Harold Wood and wife Joni of Fuquay-Varina, Timmy Wood and wife Becky of Fuquay-Varina and Stanley Wood of Fuquay-Varina. Brothers, Glenn Spence and Dwight Spence. Sisters, Shirley Anderson and husband Rees, Judy Avent and husband Jimmy and Patricia Dean and husband Bennie. Six Grandchildren and four Great Grandchildren.

Eugene Marion Porter, Jr., age 74, of Fuquay-Varina died February 17th at the E. Carlton Powell Hospice center in Lillington, NC following an extended illness. He was born February 20, 1935 to Eugene Marion Porter, Sr. and Ina Belle Porter. Mr. Porter was raised in Whiteville, NC.

He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Marion Porter, Sr.; mother, Ina Bell Porter; sister, Ina Claire Duncan; stepson, Donald Leo McGee; and grandson, Matthew Thomas McGee. Gene is survived by his wife, Barbara J. Porter, of Fuquay-Varina; son, Eugene “Buzzy” Marion Porter, III, of Raleigh, NC; daughters, Suzanne Porter, of Raleigh, NC and Ginger Porter, of Arizona; stepson, David McGee and wife, Gina, of King, NC; daughter-in-law, Lisa McGee, of Fuquay-Varina, NC; grandchildren, Peyton, Sydney, Casey, Hannah, and Jacob; and brother, William Terry Porter, of Whiteville, NC.

Gene was a devoted husband and a doting grandfather who will be deeply missed by his family. Gene was retired from the NC Public School Systems as the Director of Purchasing where he served for 30 years. Gene was a long time faithful member of the Lions Club. He served three different Clubs in District 31-G and was a Melvin Jones Fellow and a Jack Stickley Fellow. He was a loyal and dedicated Lion and served in nearly every Club and District office over the years, the last of which was Secretery of the Fuquay-Varina Lions club.

Geroge Henry Cates, 69, passed away at Rex Hospital on Monday, February 15. Mr. Cates was born in Granville County to the late Roy and Alice Wilson Cates Senior. Mr. Cates is also preceded in death by siblings, Roy Cates Jr., Phyllis Pope and David Cates. He was a great husband, father and grandfather. Josie Knight Tingen, 91, passed away February 14, 2010. Mrs. Tingen was born in Harnett County to the late Thomas and Elizabeth H. Senter Knight. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert D. Tingen. Mrs. Tingen was employed by the Kendall Co. as a seamtress for 30 years. Mrs. Tingen is survived by her son and dauther-in-law, Wayne and Dorothy B. Tingen, grandchildren Denise Lanier and Kevin Tingen. Seven Great Grandchildren, six Great Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
