Martin Herbert Drager

Dateline: Fuquay-Varina

Martin Herbert Drager died Saturday, November 15, 2008, at
home in Fuquay Varina.

He was 78 years old. He was raised in Littlefield, Texas.
He joined the Navy at an early age and enjoyed a twenty-two year career,
retiring in January, 1969, with a rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. His
Navy career was in submarines, including the USS James Monroe. He retired
from the Navy as a teacher at the training facility in Charleston, South
Carolina, and entered the civilian work force, employed by U.S. Plywood in
Charleston, South Carolina, and later by Peachtree Windows and Doors in
Atlanta, Georgia, as the maintenance manager at both corporations.

A quiet, sentimental man of few words, Martin enjoyed
working in his yard and always looked forward to the new growth of spring
and summer. He enjoyed writing letters, and kept up a correspondence with
many members of his extended family and his friends. In earlier years, he
enjoyed collecting coins, and passed some of that knowledge on to one of his
grandsons. He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church in Fuquay Varina.
In Atlanta and also in Fuquay, Martin enjoyed the friendships he formed with
his neighbors, his Sunday school class, and as a member of the American
Legion.

He was loved by his family and friends and will be sorely
missed. He is survived by his wife, Mabel, his daughters Marta James and
Rose Leeburn, and his son Ed Drager, as well as three grandchildren. He is
also survived by two sisters in Texas, Ruth Bartley and Edna Mauk, as well
as nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, November 18 at Piney Grove Baptist Church at 11 AM. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-8 PM at Williford Funeral Home. Arrangements are being handled by Williford Funeral Home, 201 E. Academy Street, Fuquay Varina, North Carolina.
