Edna Rawls McDowell passed away after a lengthy illness on Sunday, May 25, 2008, at Dunn Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Dunn, NC. Her parents, Marshall and Mary Rawls; brothers, Wilson and Kermit; and sisters, Beatrice, Annie, and Christine Rawls Puryear, predeceased her.
She was born in the Rawls community (Fuquay-Varina) and graduated from Lafayette High School.
Edna’s loves were her family, home, church, nature and wildlife. She was very spiritual and held leadership roles in children’s and women’s ministry programs of the United Methodist churches she was a member of throughout her life.
She was a member of Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church.
She leaves to cherish her memory, Frank McDowell, Sr., husband of 61 years and devoted sons, Howard McDowell (Elizabeth) and Phillip McDowell (Jan); grandchildren, Ryan, Sara, Ian, and Sophie; and siblings Henry and Mattie Rawls, and Edie Rawls Isaacs.
Visitation and a memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at 4:30 pm on Sunday, June 1, 2008, at Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church, 100 S. Judd Parkway SE, Fuquay Varina, NC.

Christopher Lee Gibson

Christopher Lee Gibson, of McGees Crossroads, died Thursday, May 22, as the vehicle he was driving swerved and overturned. Chris was born September 30, 1957 in Big Springs, Texas where his father Jerry Gibson (now residing in Fuquay-Varina) was in US Air Force pilot training. Chris is survived by his father, Jerry, stepmother, Carol, his soul mate and best friend Michelle Wiiki, and ten siblings: Steve Gibson, Linda Peabody, Robin Moseley, Tammy Edgemond, Jamie Gibson, Keith Gibson, Susan Gibson, Cindy Thompson, Deb Bardeen, and Don Chesworth. Chris will be greatly missed by his adopted family: Michelle, her two daughters, Amber and Frances, son Bobby, grandchildren Randy Roy, and James Michael whom Chris loves so much. It’s hard to say whether enjoying the two grandsons or fishing almost every night on their lake was the most important thing in Chris’ recent life.
Chris was a skilled and respected electrician, working for the past eight years for Waco Electric, Pruitt Electric, and Starr Electric after moving to the triangle from

Richard Owen Horton, 61, passed away at home on Wednesday, May 21, 2008. Mr. Horton was born in Wake county to the late Albert Winfield and Frances Dean Horton.
Mr. Horton is survived by his brothers Thomas W. Horton (wife Brenda) and Allen W. Horton, sisters Connie H. Pennington (husband Walter) and Darlene Horton, nephews Jason Pennington, Blake Horton, and Kaleb Parrott, neices Amanda and Kasey Parrott.
Richard’s final wishes were that there be a small family ceremony and the family will be honoring Richard’s desires. Friends are welcome to visit the family at the home of Darlene Horton. Services entrusted to Williford Funeral Home, 552-2211.

Vicky Ryals Slater, 50, passed away at home on Sunday, May 18, 2008. Ms. Slater was born in Wake county to the late Wilbur and Joyce Ryals.
Ms. Slater is survived by her daughter Kristal Wright and husband Wesley, sister Toni Laughlin and husband Tim, grandchild Kandace Wright, and nephew Tanner Laughlin. She also leaves behind Lott Slater and Pat and Walter Slater.

Ruby Fish Seagroves, 87, passed away at home on Monday, May 19, 2008. Mrs. Seagroves was born in Wake County to the late Arthur and Carrie Fish. She is preceded in death by her husband, Mike Seagroves, brothers, Ray and Sidney Fish. Sisters Pansy Stephens and Pearl Lanier.
Mrs. Seagroves is survived by her daughters Molly Holt of Holly Springs and Rosemary Turner of Fuquay-Varina, son Eddie Seagroves and wife Marla, brother Charles Fish of Raleigh, sisters Mary Gladys Hollen of Maine, Christine Bodeau of Fuquay-Varina, and special sister-in-law Vera Fish. Grandchildren, Alton Holt, Angelia Holland, Lee Seagroves, Sherrie Seagroves, Nicole Britton and twelve great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank Kelly Baker for her kind and loving care in addition to a special thanks to Hospice of Wake County for their care of Mrs. Seagroves.
A funeral service will be held, Wednesday, May 21st at 11 AM at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Lake Wheeler Road. Interment will be at the church cemetery following the services. The family will receive friends at Williford Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 20th from 7 - 9 PM. Flowers are welcome and donations may be made to Hospice of Wake County.

Phillis Ann Ashworth, 55, passed away at home on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 surrounded by her children and loved ones. Mrs. Ashworth is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Ashworth.
Mrs. Ashworth is survived by her daughter, Christy Maynard and husband Jack of Holly Springs. Son, Tony Ashworth of Angier and grandchildren Joshua & Savanah Maynard. Brothers, Ronnie Harmon, Larry Smith, Rodney Smith, and sister, Deborah Moore.
The family will receive friends Sunday, May 18 from 7 - 9 PM at Williford Funeral Home, Fuquay-Varina. A funeral service will be held Monday, May 19th at 12:00 Noon at Williford Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
