Norman Otis Burmaster, age 66, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina after complications from Influenza B.
Norm was born in Jamestown, New York, on April 12, 1951 to the late Stanley Burmaster and Agnes (Brustrom) Burmaster. He graduated from Circleville High School in 1970 and went on to complete his Bachelor of Fine Arts from The Ohio State University graduating in 1974. Norm, a Senior Designs Draftsman, worked 39 years at Mettler-Toledo before retiring in 2016. He was a kind and gentle soul. Norm loved flying and was a pilot for almost 50 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed building RC airplanes, watching the Buckeyes, golfing, reading, taking long walks with his dog, dining with his friends, and vacationing at Disney World. However, the Champaign Aviation Museum was his true passion. He had spent the past 11 years with his volunteer friends, working to restore a B-17 Flying Fortress back to flying status.
Norm is survived by his wife, Cathy (Knack), whom he married on April 5, 1986, at the Worthington United Methodist Church. He is also survived by his daughter, Ashley (Charles) Phillips of North Carolina, brother, Matt Burmaster of Dublin; nephews and nieces, Marty Burmaster, Emily (Scott) Roberts, Delon Summersett, Brittany (John) Wertz, and Nicholas (Bekah) Price. Norm loved the Lord and was a member of the Huntsville United Methodist Church. He will be sorely missed by those who loved him.
A Celebration of Norm’s life will be held at 2 pm, on Saturday, March 10, at the Huntsville United Methodist Church, 6611 Fruit St, Huntsville, OH 43324, with Rev. Bryan Meadows officiating.
Memorial donations in memory of Norm can be made to Champaign Aviation Museum - 1652 N. Main St, Urbana, OH 43078 - www.champaignaviationmuseum.org or Huntsville United Methodist Church.

Celebrating the life of Norman Otis Burmaster
Thank you for signing Norman Otis Burmaster's Guestbook
My sincerest condolences to Cathy and Ashley, and to Matt and his family. Norm (Kid) and I roomed at OSU for a year at the Fiji house and saw each other on rare occasions later. He once picked me up when I was in Circleville and we went to Danny Willis' house in Laurelville for RC plane discussions (they discussed--I knew nothing). We met another time I was in Columbus and had a late lunch in Dublin. He and Matt stopped at the house in NE Pennsylvania on their way to a funeral in CT and we had a meal and a beer and great conversation. It was always a joy talking to the Kid. He had the greatest laugh.

Norm and I were classmates for many years at Circleville High School. Just returned from out of state and heard the shocking news of his passing. I am so sad to have lost an old, old friend. My deepest sympathies go to you, Cathy, and your kids. We lost one of the truely good ones. The world is better because he was here.

My heartfelt prayers go out to his wife and family, and all who were close to him at CAM. Norm was such a bright light and enthusiastic soul. I will miss our conversations and his sense of humor. We had a lot of good times and laughs together. Our enjoyment of aviation and WWII history was contagious and reciprocal. May the peace of Christ comfort you. Scott Culver

Sending condolences to Cathy and daughter Ashley. Thankfully we know Norm had faith and is in God’s perfect peace but realize that God understands your tremendous sorrow and loss today and the future without your beloved husband and father. It was such shocking news to his church family. We will miss him. Prayers that you find healing for your soul and hope for God’s redemption until you meet him once again.

Will always remember Norm’s infectious laugh and smile. Such a pleasure to have met him during our time in Ohio. He complimented Cathy so well. So wish we could share another slce of pizza with Norm and Cathy at Benny’s in Marysville. May peace be with you Cathy. Our hearts go out to you.
