Billy Reece Cotten

Billy Reece Cotten, 82, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2008 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. Mr. Cotten was born to the late Commodore Reece Cotten and Lina Lee Jones Cotten in 1925. Mr. Cotten is a WWII Veteran, having served with the U.S. Army.

Mr. Cotten is survived by his loving wife, Ruby Carroll Cotten, daughter, Vickey Cotten of Gulf Port, MS. Son, Chuck Cotten and wife Ann of New Hill. Sisters, Betty Rose Holsclaw of Durham and Georgie Dale of Broadway. Grandchildren, Stephenie Mueller and husband Richard, Brantly Adcock and wife Ashley, Elisha Mitchell and husband William, Matthew Cotten, Josh Cheeseman and Barrett Cotten. Great Grandchildren, Madison and Riley Adcock, Alex, Emma and Ella Mitchell.

The family received friends at Williford Funeral Home on Friday, August 1, from 7 - 8:30. Funeral services will be held, Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Buckhorn United Methodist Church. Rev. Janet Balasko will officiate the services. Burial with military honors will follow at the church cemetery. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary’s St., Raleigh 27605 or to the building fund at Buckhorn United Methodist Church. Arrangements are being handled by Williford Funeral Home, 201 East Academy Street, Fuquay-Varina, NC.

Joseph Cotten

Dateline: Raleigh

Joseph Worth Cotten, 85, died on July 26, 2008. He was born on June 16, 1923 to the late Fonzie and Nolie Cotten. Mr. Cotten is preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Owen Cotten, daughter, JoAnne Cotten Godwin and sister, Colleen Vaughn. Mr. Cotten was a disabled veteran, having been wounded while serving in the U.S. Army in Italy during World War II.

He is survived by his sons, Danny Cotten and wife, Sue of Fuquay-Varina, Michael Cotten and wife, Gail of Little River, S.C. Daughter, Glenda McLean and husband, Jim of Kiawah Island, S.C. Brother, Franklin Cotten and wife, Nancy of Fuquay-Varina, sister, Bonnie Hales of Chester, VA. Grandchildren, Jonathan Cotten, Michelle Kimble, Brad Godwin, Jennifer Lowe, Stephanie Geyer, Steve McLean, Debbie Larsen, Greg Meyers, Jeff Meyers and twelve great grandchildren.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Fuquay-Varina. In lieu of flowers, memorials by me made to Heartland Home Health Care & Hospice, 3117 Poplarwood Court, Suite 114, Raleigh, NC 27604. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Lee’s Long Term Care Facility, Inc. for their care and concern for Mr. Joe. Arrangements are being handled by Williford Funeral Home, 201 East Academy Street, Fuquay-Varina, NC.

Willie Goss

Mr. Willie Harold Goss, 94, passed away at home on Saturday, July 19, 2008. Mr. Goss was born in Granville County in 1914, to the late Edwin T. & Eunice Flower Goss. He is preceded in death by his wife, Cozie Cotten Goss, son, Edwin Terry Goss, sister, Evelyn Bradley, brothers Clarence and James Goss.

Mr. Goss is survived by his son, Sherrill and wife Barbara S. Goss. Grandchildren, Kelly, Jimmy, Chris, Chad, Tracy, Megan and seven great grandchildren. Mr. Goss served in the Army during WWII. He retired from Carolina Trailways as a bus driver and farmed after his retirement from Trailways. He was a member of Rawls Baptist Church. The family would like to thank Debbie Snyder and Brittany for all their kindness they showed Mr. Goss. Flowers are welcomed or contributions may be made to Hospice of Wake County or Rawls Baptist Church Building Fund.

The family will receive friends at Williford Funeral Home, 201 E. Academy St., Fuquay-Varina, on Monday from 7 - 9 PM. Funeral Services will be held at Rawls Baptist Church, Tuesday at 11:00 AM. Rev. Larry King will officiate the services. Burial will follow at Rawls Baptist Church Cemetery.

Arthur Linwood Medlin

“A Life that touches the hearts of other, lives on forever”

Arthur Medlin, 75, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, of Willow Springs, went to be with his Lord and Savior July 18, 2008. He was born December 28, 1932 to the late Jonas and Myrtle Medlin. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Blannie Adams, Ethelene Johnson, Ella Lawrence, Pearl Bowling and Katie Rowland. Brothers, Jason Medlin, Jessie Medlin and Thurmond Medlin.

Mr. Medlin is survived by his wife Betty, who truly was his soul mate. Sons, Timmy Medlin, Linwood Medlin and wife Carolyn. Daughters, Diane Allen and husband Tommy, Cindy Temple, Cathy Bond and husband Randy. Grandchildren, Tasha Mangum, Ricky Temple Jr., Barry Messer, Jenny Jones, Brittany Allen, Justin Allen, DJ Medlin, Candice King and several great grandchildren.

Arthur always had an extended hand to anyone in need and he happily spoke of life, therefore as a journey, one that would ultimately lead to his destination Eternal Life with him! “Weep not, he said, for I have found peace.”

Pattie Frances Brown Holder, 80, eagerly & anxiously took her exodus from her earthly tabernacle, eneaked with the discomforts of ALS, to be with the one who loaned her to her husband for 60 wonderful years. Our loss is Heaven’s gain.

She was born Pattie Frances Brown to the late Ossie Garner and Charlie Weldon Brown, August 15, 1927. Pattie is preceded is death by her brothers, James Andrew Brown and Harold Daniel Brown and Mother-In-Law, Minnie D. Holder who loved Pat dearly.

Pattie is survived by her husband Earnest Edmar Holder and daughter Brenda H. Jacquish & husband Dale of N.J. Brother, Biley Judson Brown & wife Carolyn of Fuquay-Varina and sister, Margaret Ann Hudson & husband Corbett of Hendersonville, TN. Granddaughters, Nichole Daniele Jacquish & husband Jamie Tennant, Elizabeth Rene & Lauren Holder Jacquish and Great Granddaughter, Scarlett Ann.

The family will receive friends at Williford Funeral Home, 201 E. Academy St., Fuquay-Varina, on Wednesday from 7 - 9 PM. Funeral Services will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 7900 Ten Ten Road, Thursday at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the ALS Association or Heartland Hospice.
