Mary Willa Faye Buchanan Reaves, 73, went to be with Jesus February 14, 2008 at Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital. Mrs. Reaves was born in Harnett County to the late Charlie Winston Buchanan and Dessie Dudley Buchanan. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, John Buchanan and Riddles Buchanan, as well as her sister Mae Henderson.

Mrs. Reaves had the privilege of loving two wonderful men in her life. Her first husband, Walton Allen Spence, was a loving and wonderful father. After his passing, Mrs. Reaves was blessed, as few of us are, with finding another love, Mr. Roy Reaves. Both were wonderful men that provided Mary with many years of happiness.

Mrs. Reaves is survived by her son David Allen Spence, and wife Brenda Gail, her daughters Teresa Ann Wood, married to the late Ralph Wood, and Connie Spence Davis. She leaves two sisters, Mildred Lee of Fuquay-Varina and Polly Jones of New Hill. She also leaves behind six grandchildren–Jamey, Bridget, Kevin, Chris, Katlyn, and Keith–as well as three great-grandchildren–Patrick, Jonathan, and Marshall.

There will be a visitation for Mrs. Reaves Saturday, February 16th at Williford Funeral Home in Fuquay-Varina from 7-9pm. A funeral service, conducted by Rev. Steve Gordon, will be held at Piney Grove Baptist Church Sunday, February 17th at 2pm with burial to follow at Kennebec Baptist Church Cemetery.

    Mrs. Teresa,

Just wanted to let you know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I know that this is a hard time, but comfort comes in knowing that your mother has gone to be with the Lord. What joy you must have in this assurance. Please call me anytime if I can do anything for you, even if it is just to talk. Love you!

    All my love,
    Sonya

I am saddened by our loss of Mary, as I have not yet had the privilage to meet her in person. But I am very happy to know that I will meet her someday in heaven. What a joy to know that we will meet before the throne of God. I am the son of her first cousin Frank, and have lived far away, but someday will meet her face to face. May God bless you during this time of mourning for our loss, and give you the peace that passes all understanding.
